RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Prior to joining Practus, Patrick served as partner and practice group chairperson at several law firms in Chicago, where he first learned from learned from and then in turn mentored a generation of the top lawyers in Illinois in business litigation, transportation law, aviation litigation and complex class action practice. He has also operated his own firm Keating Law Group LLC, learning first-hand the challenges and rewards of small business entrepreneurship,
REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS
- Represented Dubai and Hong Kong-based air freight brokers pursuing complex fraud and contract claims against an air charter company involving the long-term lease of two Boeing 747-400F aircraft.
- Defended a floor trading association charged with violation of CME Group rules and CFTC regulations regarding the open outcry trading of Eurodollar futures.
- Defended a group of Eurodollar Futures traders against claims by CME Group alleging violations of CME Rules and CFTC regulations relating to open outcry trading practices during the COVID era.
- Represented a consortium of insurers prosecuting a recovery claim against the shipper of undeclared hazardous materials that ignited in flight and destroyed a FedEx DC-10 cargo jet; assembling a team of scientific and engineering experts that determined the exact point and cause of ignition, which the NTSB had been unable to determine.
- Defended a product manufacturer in wrongful death litigation claiming that defects in the client’s product caused an air tour helicopter to capsize following an emergency landing in the East River in New York, developing the trial strategy to direct juror attention to the proper defendants in a technically intricate, multiple-defendant lawsuit.
- Tried to successful verdict claims of breach of fiduciary duty and unjust enrichment brought by a shareholder in a closely held corporation against the company’s founder.
