John Grady has dedicated his career to the investment management industry, with a particular focus on funds and their managers and distributors. His practice spans SEC registered investment vehicles, including mutual funds, ETFs, interval funds, offshore registered vehicles such as UCITS, and other specialized funds such REITs, BDCs and commodity pools. He also has extensive experience advising private funds of all types and structures, both domestic and offshore.
John works with firms that sponsor and advise pooled funds and separate accounts, as well as those that distribute funds and those that provide important services to pooled vehicles, such as transfer agents and pricing services. His experience also includes counseling boards of funds, including independent board members.
In addition to his legal practice, John has served in several operational, and executive roles within the investment management industry. He has worked directly with advisers and distributors, providing him with a practical, business-oriented perspective on the legal and regulatory challenges facing his clients.
When not working, you can find John out on the golf links, enjoying good wine, reading history and playing jazz and rock drums.

Immediately prior to joining Practus, John served as General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer for a New York City-based adviser that manages mutual funds, UCITS, and private funds. John has also practiced with several law firms, including Practus, LLP and DLA Piper LLP, where his work focused on pooled funds, ranging from mutual funds and closed-end interval funds to private funds, as well as fund advisers and distributors.
Earlier in his career, John held a variety of legal and executive roles within the investment management industry, working with asset managers and fund sponsors.
Over the last five years, John has helped build and operate a range of new investment structures for a growing firm, including U.S. mutual funds, UCITS funds sold in retail markets, and private funds formed both domestically and offshore and offered to sophisticated investors globally.
Through this fast-paced and challenging work, John partnered with leading firms in the investment management industry and gained valuable insight into industry best practices and operational excellence. Throughout these efforts, the investment approach remained a central focus, with an emphasis on delivering strong results for shareholders across each product launched.
