RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

Throughout his career, Chad Kaffer has represented a wide range of clients, including commercial businesses, lenders, real estate brokerages, investors, developers, and construction companies. His practice also extends into administrative law, where he has appeared before numerous agencies such as the Industrial Commission, Labor Board, Registrar of Contractors, Department of Real Estate, and Board of Appraisal. In addition, he has advised clients on matters involving the EEO, ADA, and FHA, further broadening the scope of his legal experience.

Before joining Practus, Chad worked as a partner at Taylor Duma, practiced at a respected local firm in Phoenix, Arizona, and later cofounded his own firm in Scottsdale, where he built a reputation for thoughtful guidance and strong advocacy.

Complementing his courtroom experience, Chad is trained in alternative dispute resolution and frequently mediates or arbitrates conflicts on behalf of his clients. A skilled communicator, he honed his advocacy skills through competitive public speaking and debate during university and law school. Today, those abilities—combined with his arbitration training—allow him to navigate complex negotiations with confidence, protect his clients’ interests, and achieve practical, results-driven solutions.

REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS

  • Successfully negotiated the purchase of a $20 million shopping center. Handled the property subdivision of the center, preparation of property owner association documents, and the creation of leasing documents, sales contracts, and construction contracts for the disposition of the center.
  • Successfully argued an appeal to overturn a default tax lien foreclosure judgment entered against a client that threatened to cause the client to lose a highly profitable aeronautics business parcel. The decision now serves as reported case precedent regarding a court’s ability to assert personal jurisdiction.
  • Represented large independent insurance brokerage in preparing for sale, negotiating acquisition price, and structuring secured transaction documents for the payment of residual earned commissions.
  • Represented Canadian investor syndicate in creation of tax advantageous entity structure of real estate holding companies for purchase and renovation of numerous multifamily properties. Negotiated the purchase of those multifamily properties and aided in the development and execution of a rent stabilization strategy. Negotiated the ultimate sale of those properties, including complex issues related to FIRPTA withholdings and assignment and assumption of SBA loans.
  • Successfully represented large property management company before state licensing board in response to consumer complaint and audit.
  • Successfully represented homeowner in licensing claim against a general contractor who issued invoices for materials that were not ordered and secured. Representation included filing an initial complaint and appearing at inspections, securing a corrective work order, appearing before the office of administrative hearings and securing a license suspension and right to seek statutory and bond recovery, and successfully arguing against the appeal of license revocation.
