PRACTUS CARES ABOUT BREAST CANCER

Did you know on average, every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S.? And breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in American women, where 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. ₁

This hits close to home in our Practus family, impacting some of our partners and their extended family. Each October we update our Practus logo to support Breast Cancer Awareness month. Throughout the month, we share stats and information on all our social channels to raise awareness for this important cause. We also donate to the Susan G. Komen foundation each year.

PRACTUS CARES ABOUT OUTREACH

When our friends and partners at Squeaky Wheel Media (the amazing team that built this website) reached out about a mission that is near and dear to their hearts – supporting an orphanage in El Salvador they adopted – we were happy to pitch in! The orphanage houses over 100 children who are the survivors of gang violence and abuse in one of the most dangerous countries for young children in our hemisphere. From newborns to teenagers, they are given a safe haven for food, housing and education. President and Founder of Squeaky, Anthony del Monte  has made it a personal goal to help in any way he can and we are honored to help him in those outreach efforts! Gracias Anthony and Team Squeaky!

PRACTUS CARES ABOUT MEN’S HEALTH

No-Shave November is dedicated to raising awareness of men’s health issues like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide. Very important issues we all can get behind! In addition to creating awareness about these hot topics through social media, we also held a No-Shave November hair growing contest among our team, including “Whiska Wednesday” check-ins, where we encourage our contestants to submit their hairiest photos to date. At the end of the month, we voted on the winner based on the best Before and After pic. Top prize – a year’s subscription to Dollar Shave Club, plus a complete Razorguard blade preservation system.

PRACTUS CARES ABOUT “US”

Our people are our #1 priority, and we make it a point to care about what they care about. Our Firm Administrator, Sandy Haislet has a passion for scouting, working with and volunteering for her local Boy Scout troop with her son, Sawyer. The Boy Scout Troop she is involved with had their camping trailer broken into and everything was stolen. Tents, camping gear, tool boxes, campsite stoves – you name it, it was all gone. The boys were devastated and so was Sandy. There are only 12 boys in this Troop who are between the ages of 11-16 years and they needed our help. A Go Fund Me was set up to raise money to replenish everything that was lost and we were so honored and happy to be able to give back to the Scouts and help them get back on their feet!

We’re big supporters of lifetime learning and are always looking for ways to provide our partners with opportunities to earn CLE credits. We encourage our attorneys to share any CLE’s they know about on our CLE Opportunity Board on Microsoft Teams in case it could help one of their colleagues. We promote speaking events on our Internal Events Calendar on our company Intranet so attorneys stay connected  about upcoming opportunities. And we host speakers at firm wide events where attorneys can listen in and earn their credits. Our latest one was on How to Avoid Legal Malpractice which covered conflicts, conflict waivers, fee agreements, rules of confidentiality and communication. 

Our Practus team is spread across the country in multiple time zones. After our first “Lunch & Learn” we quickly realized lunch was not so appealing at 10 am for our west coasters, and thus began our Snack & Learn series. We use these sessions to educate our team on a variety of topics. From covering new resources at Practus, like demoing our new company Intranet, to providing tips and tricks on improving online presence and visibility for our attorneys, to learning more about a new practice area and opportunities for cross selling, the Snack & Learn platform is the perfect format to to stay connected, learn more about each other, and the tools we have at our fingertips to help us work smarter and faster.

Thirsty Thursdays are held on the third Thursday of every month. Say that 10 times fast! Alliteration aside, our Thirsty Thursday happy hours are a great way for our team to kick back for an hour and just catch up. People join if they are able and skip if they can’t make it. It’s always a fun gathering of folks sharing about their week, their latest news, plans for the weekend, who’s watching what, funny stories, you name it, we have covered it. Always a good time and a nice way to head into the weekend. We love our Thirsty Thursday gatherings.
